He aims to enjoy the rest of his life traveling a little and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren.

Information/Instructional Design

Information/ Instructional design is the process of creating visual aids, which quickly and effectively communicate information. Such designs are usually used to communicate large amounts of data, or provide guidance for children and foreign travelers. These designs have a purpose and are usually not created for entertainment, but rather for education and guidance

EXAMPLES

  • Graphs are quick ways to present large amounts of mathematical data

Interactive Design

Interactive design is any form of design that has an interactive application between the product and its user. Due to Web 2.0, forms of interactive design have flooded the Internet with the creation of online games, forums, peer to peer sharing sites, and social networking sites.

EXAMPLE

  •  Facebook/ Myspace - These sites allow the user to interact with the webpage to create online identities which can be edited at anytime. Friend lists can also be created as well as music and video files uploaded. Real time chat and leaving comments on other peoples pages are other interactive applications

  • Runescape/ SecondLife - These sites are forms of online games, which place the user in control of an avatar (virtual character). Interaction include exploring a virtual world, communicating with other online players, and can also include creating legitimate  businesses, that create real life revenue

WEB 2.0

Web 2.0 is a term given to the next generation of web development and design. The Web 2.0 era is defined by dynamic internet pages which encourage user participation and contribution. Reason for the generational  swap from Web 1.0 to Web 2.0 is due to greater internet speeds, allowing for more complex and interactive pages to be developed and accessed.

The main differences between Web 1.0 and Web 2.0 is the idea that the viewer can interact with a webpage, instead of viewing a 1 dimensional page of information.

Examples
  •  Facebook/ Myspace - Allows for viewer ownership of webpage where they can manipulate it to suit their personality
  •  Wikipedia - A massive information hive, where every internet user and read, edit and provide new information.
  •  Youtube - The largest internet video sharing site, where users can create profiles, upload videos, leave comments, and subscribe to other users accounts.
  •  Blogger - Everything on this page was created by a common internet user.
  • The Summer Heights High Website - Allows for video downloads, and provide interactive games. ( a good example of a smaller website, which is heavily influenced by Web 2.0
